Terms & Conditions

1. About us

KinLink is operated by Daniel Roizer, trading as KinLink, a sole trader based in Sutton-in-Ashfield, United Kingdom. You can contact us at hello@kinl.ink. KinLink is a UK-only service, we sell to and ship within the United Kingdom only, and do not offer this service outside the UK.

These terms apply to:

  • Consumer purchases — individuals buying wristbands for personal/family use ("you", "the customer")
  • Organisation enquiries and orders — schools, nurseries, and other organisations buying in bulk ("the organisation")
  • The wristband renewal subscription — the annual per-band renewal described in Section 5, which applies to every wristband regardless of whether it was bought individually or as part of an organisation order

2. What KinLink provides

KinLink sells silicone wristbands, each bearing a unique QR code. When scanned, the QR code directs to a web page allowing the finder to contact the wearer's registered emergency contact without that contact's personal details being shown to the finder. KinLink also provides the online account platform used to register wristbands, manage contact and (optionally) medical information, and view scan activity.

Wristbands are currently available in two sizes, Child and Adult (further sizes are added over time as they become available), each shown with its own price on our site at the time of purchase.

Important: KinLink is a safety aid, not a guarantee. See Section 9.

3. Consumer orders

3.1 Ordering and payment

Orders are placed and paid for through our website via our payment provider (Stripe). A contract is formed once we accept your order (confirmed by email at hello@kinl.ink), not at the point of payment. Orders are limited to a maximum of 20 wristbands per order; larger requirements should go through the organisation enquiry route in Section 4.

3.2 Delivery

We currently ship within the United Kingdom only, via Royal Mail, at the flat shipping rate shown at checkout. Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery.

3.3 Right to cancel

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving the goods, without giving a reason. To cancel, contact us at hello@kinl.ink. You must return the goods at your own cost within 14 days of telling us you wish to cancel, and we will refund you within 14 days of receiving the returned goods.

This right does not apply once a wristband has been claimed and activated on the platform (i.e. linked to a child or dependant's profile), since at that point the product has been personalised to you in a way that isn't resaleable, in line with the exemption for personalised/sealed goods under the Regulations.

3.4 Faulty goods

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If a wristband is faulty (e.g. the QR code fails or the band degrades abnormally), contact us for a repair, replacement, or refund as appropriate.

3.5 Quantity discounts

Orders of 2 or more wristbands automatically receive a discount off the per-band price at checkout, shown before you pay. Discount tiers may change from time to time and the applicable tier is the one shown at checkout.

3.6 Replacement bands

If a band is lost or damaged after the cancellation period, a replacement can be purchased through your account at the price shown at the time. A replacement band bundles a fresh 12-month period before the renewal subscription in Section 5 begins charging again for that band.

4. Organisation orders

4.1 Scope

Organisations (schools, nurseries, holiday parks, and similar) can either order directly through the standard consumer checkout (Section 3, subject to the same 20-band order limit and quantity discounts), or submit an enquiry through our organisation enquiry form for bespoke bulk pricing, invoicing, and delivery arrangements outside the standard checkout limits.

4.2 Bespoke enquiries

Where an organisation's requirements are handled via the enquiry route rather than standard checkout, pricing, payment terms, and delivery are agreed separately in writing and are not governed by Sections 3.1 - 3.6. Where no bespoke agreement is reached, the standard consumer terms in Section 3 apply to any order the organisation places through checkout.

4.3 No consumer cancellation rights on bespoke orders

The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 cancellation rights in Section 3.3 do not apply to bespoke bulk orders agreed under Section 4.2, as these are business-to-business contracts. Cancellation or return is at our discretion and may be subject to a restocking or administration charge, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

4.4 Organisation responsibilities

The organisation is responsible for distributing wristbands to the correct individuals and for ensuring parents/guardians provide informed consent before a child's wristband is claimed and personal data entered on the platform, in line with Section 8.

5. Wristband renewal subscription

5.1 What it covers

Each wristband includes 12 months of platform service (scan-and-contact, notifications, scan history) from the date it's claimed or first shipped. After that, a wristband renews annually at the price shown in your account and on our site, currently charged per band via Stripe. This applies uniformly whether the band was purchased individually or as part of an organisation order.

5.2 Auto-renew and renewal terms

Each wristband has its own renewal setting in your account, including whether it auto-renews. Before a first renewal charge is taken, you're asked to accept the renewal terms for that band. You can turn auto-renew off, or cancel a band's subscription, at any time through your account.

5.3 Billing and cancellation

Where auto-renew is on, we take payment automatically using the payment method on file at the end of each band's 12-month period unless you cancel first. We will email you in advance of a renewal charge being taken. Cancelling stops future renewal charges for that band; we do not offer partial refunds for time already paid for on a band's current period, except as required by consumer law.

5.4 What happens if a band's subscription lapses

If a wristband's subscription is not renewed or is cancelled, scanning for that band becomes inactive at the point of expiry, the QR code will no longer provide a working contact route to a finder. Before that happens, we give the account holder advance email notice at 3 months, 1 month, 2 weeks, and 3 days before expiry, so there's ample opportunity to renew, replace the payment method, or make alternative arrangements before scanning is disabled. If you renew after expiry, scanning is reactivated once payment is processed.

5.5 Consumer cancellation rights on a new subscription

Where you are an individual consumer, you have the right to cancel a wristband's first renewal subscription within 14 days of first agreeing to it under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, unless you have expressly asked for the renewal service to begin within that period and acknowledged you lose the right to cancel once it has fully started.

6. Accounts

You must provide accurate information when creating an account and registering a wristband, and keep your contact details up to date, since the platform's core safety function depends on this information being current. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

7. Data protection

KinLink processes personal data, including children's data, in accordance with UK GDPR and our Privacy Policy. Your account provides self-service tools to export your stored data and to erase a child's profile and associated data at any time, described in the Privacy Policy. By using KinLink you confirm you have the authority to provide the personal data of any child or dependant you register (e.g. as a parent, guardian, or authorised carer), and, where you enable the optional medical information feature, that you consent to that additional, more sensitive data being stored for the stated safety purpose.

8. Acceptable use

You must not use the platform to submit false information, to register a wristband for a child or dependant you do not have authority over, or to harass, abuse, or misuse the scan/contact functionality in any way. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts used in breach of this section.

9. Important: limitations of the service

KinLink is designed to help reunite lost children and vulnerable adults with their families more quickly. It is:

  • Not a location-tracking device. KinLink does not track or record the wearer's real-time location. Where a finder chooses to voluntarily share their own location when scanning a band, this reflects the finder's location at the moment of scanning, not the wearer's, and is approximate.
  • Not a substitute for supervision. KinLink does not reduce the need for appropriate supervision of children or vulnerable adults.
  • Dependent on a third party choosing to scan the code and make contact. We cannot guarantee that a finder will scan the wristband, will do so promptly, or will make contact.
  • Dependent on functioning technology. Contact relies on the finder's device, network connectivity, and the continued operation of our platform and third-party services (e.g. SMS and calling providers). We will make reasonable efforts to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept liability for any loss, harm, or damage arising from a failure of a third party to scan or respond to a wristband, from network or technology failure, or from reliance on KinLink as a substitute for appropriate supervision. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. Intellectual property

The KinLink name, platform, and associated branding are our property or used under licence. You may not copy, reverse engineer, or resell access to the platform.

11. Liability (general)

Subject to Section 9, our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms is limited to the amount you paid for the relevant product or subscription in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.

12. Discontinuation of the service

We may withdraw or shut down the KinLink service in its entirety, at our discretion, by giving all active account holders (individual and organisation) at least 30 days' written notice by email to the address held on the account. During the notice period, the service will continue to operate as normal.

If the service is discontinued:

  • No further renewal payments will be taken from the date of shutdown, and any renewal period paid in advance for a band beyond the shutdown date will be refunded on a pro-rata basis
  • We will provide reasonable advance instructions for exporting your stored data (contacts, medical information, scan history) before shutdown, using the export tools described in Section 7 and our Privacy Policy
  • After the notice period ends, wristband scan pages will no longer provide a working contact route, and physical wristbands will cease to function as a safety product from that date

This clause does not apply to suspension or termination of an individual account for breach of Section 8 (Acceptable use), which may happen without 30 days' notice.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes affecting active organisation subscriptions will be notified in advance.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
